Manchester Music Weekend: A 2-Day Gig and Club Itinerary

Two days of live music in Manchester: Northern Quarter gigs, warehouse raves and practical tips for visitors, laid out hour by hour.

Why Manchester works for a short trip

Manchester packs an enormous amount of music into a compact city centre. You can walk between most venues, which makes it one of the easiest cities in the UK for a weekend built around gigs and club nights.

Day one: Northern Quarter

Spend the afternoon in the Northern Quarter, the city's independent heart, browsing record and vintage shops. Early evening, catch a band at one of the area's small live rooms — grassroots venues here have launched countless careers.

After the gig, stay nearby: the area's bars and basement clubs keep going well past midnight.

Day two: the big night

Save your energy for a larger event on the second night. Manchester's warehouse spaces host some of the biggest house, techno and drum & bass events in the country, and they often sell out — buy tickets before you travel.

Big warehouse events can be a walk or short tram ride from the centre, so check how you'll get back before you go. Taxis queue outside, but booking a ride in advance saves waiting.

Visitor tips

Bring photo ID, expect relaxed dress codes at gigs, and pack a light waterproof — Manchester's weather is famously changeable. Tipping isn't expected in bars or clubs.
