How to See Great Live Music in the UK on a Budget
Ways to see gigs and club nights in the UK without spending a fortune: free events, early-bird tickets, grassroots venues, midweek nights and avoiding resale markups.
Start with grassroots venues
Small independent venues are the backbone of UK live music, and tickets are often a fraction of the price of big-name shows. Many of today's headliners played these rooms a few years ago. Going regularly supports venues that are under real financial pressure, and you'll usually get a better view too.
Look for free events
Pubs, bars and cafés across the UK host free live music, open mic nights and DJ sessions every week. Summer brings free festivals and outdoor stages in most cities. Pulse keeps a list of free events happening this week.
Buy early, or go midweek
Early-bird tickets are often the cheapest you'll find, so sign up to venue and promoter mailing lists. Midweek nights are usually cheaper than weekends and far less crowded.
Avoid resale markups
If a show sells out, check the official resale option before going anywhere else. Many vendors let fans resell at face value. Be wary of social media sellers asking for bank transfers; if it feels off, it probably is.
