Glasgow & Edinburgh in 3 Days: A Scottish Live Music Itinerary

A three-day Scottish music trip covering Glasgow's loud gig crowds and Edinburgh's late bars, with train tips for moving between the two.

Two cities, one trip

Glasgow and Edinburgh are under an hour apart by train, so it's easy to see both on one trip. Glasgow is the gig city, with some of the loudest and friendliest crowds in the UK; Edinburgh adds late bars, folk sessions and, in August, the festivals.

Days one and two: Glasgow

Base yourself in the city centre and spend your first night at a live gig — Glasgow crowds sing along like nowhere else. On the second day, explore the West End's record shops and cafés, then head to a club night; the city has a long history with techno and house.

Day three: Edinburgh

Take a morning train east. Spend the afternoon in the Old Town, then look for a traditional music session in a pub — many are free and welcome visitors. Finish with a gig or a late bar around Cowgate.

Last trains back to Glasgow leave around midnight, so check the timetable if you're not staying over.

Visitor tips

Scotland uses the same pound as the rest of the UK, though you'll see Scottish banknotes — they're accepted everywhere in Scotland. ID and drinking rules match the rest of the UK.
